Job Description

The Co-operative Bank of Kenya Limited is incorporated in Kenya under the Company Act and is also licensed to do the business of banking under the Banking Act. The Bank was initially registered under the Co-operative Societies Act at the point of founding in 1965.

Test Analyst

  • Location.Nairobi

The role

The successful jobholder will be expected to:

  • Create and implement test plans and test cases based on functional requirements, functional design documents, and user interface documents and come up with test scripts that are up to standard.
  • Set up test environments where necessary and perform a smoke test of the environment to ensure it is setup accurately to test against.
  • Prepare and acquire test data incorporating changes that are made to sustain back into that applications testing documentation.
  • Execute & log tests and use test administration or management tools and test monitoring tools as required to identify and recommend process improvements as necessary.
  • Re-use existing testing documentation for new projects/releases.
  • Incorporate test results and changes/defect into test case and undertake quality and test reporting to all stakeholders in addition to giving advice on corrective measures
  • Develop, review and refine all checklists and test scripts developed by team members and testers based on the overall project scope and requirement specifications.
  • Undertake risk-based system evaluation to determine the types of testing required and the extent to which they should be undertaken and execute the test plans as per the documented requirements.

Qualifications, Skills & Attributes

The successful jobholder will be required to possess the following qualifications: –

  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology and/or related fields from a recognized university.
  • Training in Quality Assurance, Project and System testing, Certification in International Software Testing Qualification Board(ISTQBT) will be an added advantage.
  • 2+ years of experience in an IT/Systems related role with Strong knowledge of system testing and software quality control best practices and methodologies.
  • Proven analytical and creative problem-solving skills with an ability to listen, understand and interpret clients’ needs technically and in a user-friendly manner
  • Experience on systems like Mobile money transfer, USSD/SMS, ERP, CRM, core banking system and other systems in a financial services ecosystem.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.

Network Engineer

  • Location. Nairobi

The Role

Specifically, the successful jobholder will be required to:

  • Manage performance of ICT Infrastructure and applications to ensure that the systems work as designed and perform consistently and reliably in order to meet Business SLAs.
  • Monitor ICT Infrastructure performance including SNMP, logs, events and maintenance of general systems’ health in order to provide proactive remedial support.
  • Develop and maintain device access, control policies, data transmission policies, storage policies, Business continuity policies, backup policies, security policies, monitoring profiles, technologies and notification rules that match compliance best practice expectations.
  • Plan and implement timely product upgrades, firewall signature updates and patch releases for all ICT assets.
  • Research and evaluate external technical trends & developments and evolving industry standards concerning technologies affecting networks, security, client/server and other platforms and their application to business systems.
  • Research local and international technology trends in business to improve system performance, security and functionality.
  • Define and document the various architecture components, including hardware platform, operating system, execution, development, operation, distribution and technologies related to networking systems.
  • Install, support and maintain hardware and software infrastructure, attend to system failures and resolve/coordinate resolution of issues.
  • Establish and maintain business relationships with vendors, consultants and other outside entities providing services to the bank.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or an IT related field from a recognized university and possession of Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) is a must.
  • Wide Networking and project management experience with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in planning, systems analysis, design, support and development of LAN/WAN infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated experience integrating systems in multi-user, multi-platform, multitasking operating systems environments such as UNIX, Windows 2003/2008.
  • Excellent understanding and working knowledge with TCP/IP, IP Telephony and Firewall appliances.
  • A specialist in IT/ Engineering background with competences in Networking, Engineering, Power systems and good project management/consulting skills.

The role

The successful jobholder will be expected to:

  • Recommend replacements and acquisition of new ICT Infrastructure, maintain and update System documentation, operating procedures and business continuity policies. Develop, maintain device access, control policies, data transmission policies, storage policies, Business continuity policies, backup policies, security policies, monitoring profiles, technologies and notification rules that match compliance best practice expectations.
  • Plan and design systems that run mission critical business applications and implement upgrade systems when necessary.
  • Research and evaluate external technical trends and developments and evolving industry standards concerning technologies affecting server load balancing, virtualization, security, client/server and other platforms and their application to business systems. Research local and international technology trends in business and deliver leading edge technology to improve system performance, security and functionality.
  • Act as a thought-leader and consultant on technical planning issues and initiatives.
  • Define and document the various architecture components, including hardware platform, operating system, execution, development, operation, distribution and technologies related to systems administration.
  • Attend to system failure and resolves/coordinates resolution of issues. Install, support and maintain hardware and software infrastructure, provide training and technical support for users and handle queries from them and resolve any issues raised.

The role
The successful jobholder will be expected to:

  • Lead and manage implementation of projects within a portfolio of competing projects and limited time and resources.
  • Develop processes and procedures to support the achievement of the project objectives.
  • Follow a defined, agreed upon project management methodology for Planning, Defining, Execution, Monitoring, Control and reporting activities within the project lifecycle.
  • Prepare project initiation and governing documents like, Project Charter and Project Management Plans.
  • Determine the organizational structure of the project team and assemble a cross-functional project staff for their technical or functional contribution to the project.
  • Identify key stakeholders to the project and their roles and value while coordinating activities across different internal and external functions.
  • Assigning work to team members in collaboration with the work stream owner and ensuring the team remains motivated to deliver.
  • Manage project budget and resource allocation as well as constantly checking on project progress toward meeting its objectives, determining the cause of deviations from the plan if any and take corrective actions to address deviations.

Qualifications, Skills & Attributes

The successful jobholder will be required to possess the following qualifications: –

  • A Bachelor’s degree in an ICT related field from a recognized university with a Certification in Project Management – Prince 2 Practitioner or PMP. Certification in Agile Project management will be an added advantage
  • Minimum 5 years of increasingly responsible experience, including experience successfully managing various projects.
  • Able to manage and lead a sandbox for delivery of technical initiatives using Agile methodology and scrum practices
  • Proven consistent experience of successfully managing various ICT projects in both waterfall and agile implementation frameworks.
  • Thorough understanding of project management lifecycle, phases, techniques and tools with strong and tested project management skills, including sponso.r and risk management.
  • Outstanding grasp of information technology concepts and processes.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for effective leadership of staff, energy and enthusiasm with a strong client focus.
  • Experience in business process analysis preferably in a multi discipline environment.
  • Highly developed analytical skills with an ability to remain focused on outputs and to adjust delivery mechanisms to meet deadlines and client needs.
  • Knowledge of organization’s methodology and tools with an understanding of IT as a shared service to other areas of the bank
